In 1992 Hillary Clinton supported the Federal assault weapons ban before the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act was passed in 1993 and signed by President Clinton[14].

During a 1999 press conference at the White House, First Lady Hillary Clinton stated, “And since the crime bill was enacted, 19 of the deadliest assault weapons are harder to find on our streets. We will never know how many tragedies we’ve avoided because of these efforts.”[15]

In the 1999 Proposition B in Missouri campaign, Robin Carnahan’s Safe Schools and Workplaces Committee, on the weekend prior to voting day, coordinated a taped phone message from Hillary Clinton that automatically dialed 75,000 homes statewide with the message, “Just too dangerous for Missouri families.” [16]

Hillary Clinton favors “sensible gun control legislation” and not limiting gun control lawsuits. [17] She made gun control issues part of her 2000 Senate campaign.[18]
Hillary Clinton was one of 16 Senators who voted against the 2006 Vitter Amendment, which prohibits the funding of the confiscation of lawfully-held firearms during a disaster.

This bill has been floating around now for a couple weeks and I saw another story today on it and how its making an appearance on the hill. HR45 would make the “assault” rifle ban in 94 by Clinton look like a walk in the park. Assault rifles would not be banned for several years like before, they would be banned permanently. You would have to have an FFL in order to legally own a firearm in HR45. How would the government go about confiscating legal firearms from tax paying, ex military, clean record Americans? Liberals may ask, why do you need an assault rifle, why do you need guns, its not a matter of need or want, but of the God given right provided to all US citizens by the constitution. If two men can get married, or a woman can have an abortion, why cant I protect my family from a possible threat? Why does this administration want to take away the right to defend ourselves? Obama has already said that he will not weaponize space, he will cut our nuclear arsenal, and now he wants to take away our guns….somethings fishy here.

If gun laws work then wouldn’t Washington DC have the lowest crime and murder rate in the country? So how comes Washington DC is the murder capital of the nation instead? Could it be because the anti-gun politicians and anti-gun corporate controlled media are lying bedfellows? Are any Democrats upset with their party’s stance to destroy constitutional rights and make the streets safer for criminals and more dangerous for average citizens? Is there a secret agenda behind their support for wanting to ban guns? Don’t lie and tell me the Democrats don’t want my guns either. Obama and many of the others have publicly voiced their support for passing another “assault weapons ban” in order to ban the very guns that I use for DEFENSE. The second amendment isn’t about hunting.
AB17, thanks for copying and pasting some anti-gun propaganda instead of giving me a real answer.
Alex, I’m not lying. Gun control and the second amendment have been brought up on the campaign trail many times already. Our constitutional rights are an important issue to most people, myself included. They better support ALL of my rights and not just pick and choose.

Matt asked:

President-elect Barack Obama has just stated that he is going to tax ammunition 500% as well as all handguns and semi-automatic weapons. He said he wants to permanantly ban all hanguns, semi-auto’s, and some shotguns. He also wants to do away with the ‘grandfather clause’ and make it illegal to possess any guns purchased before his ban goes into effect. You will have to wait for 30 days to buy a gun. He and Biden are also proposing reinstating a ‘much stronger’ version of the 1994-2004 Clinton gun ban that the Republican Congress let expire in 2004. This new band would be permanent without being up for renewal option! Basically they are disarming law abiding citizens, but doing so in small increments. With The Democrats having a fillibuster proof Majority in the Senate and House, Obama will be able to implement and pass this gun control on America as the numbers are there in the Senate. They already have 58 seats out of 100. No, I am not a Republican, and am darn sure not a Democrat. I am an American that votes 3rd party every time. Who agrees with me that the cities they ban guns in have the highest crime rates? A criminal can get a gun anywhere. This legislation is targeted at LAW ABIDING CITIZENS and nothing more. Do you agree with what they said they are going to do on January 20, 2009, by signing the confiscation of guns into law? Look at the President-elect’s voting record as a Senator on every piece of gun legislation in the past. Who in their right mind would allow a 500% tax on ammunition and all guns? People have told me ‘Congress won’t let him do it’, however I disagree as they have enough of a majority to do whatever they want for the next 2 years. So, the question of the day is…Do you agree with what they are doing come January or are you for it??? When is enough enough? Sincerely, an average American struggling to pay the mortgage and keep gas in my car. No I am not a right winger or a gun freak either. This coming legislation just seems very disturbing to me.
eople are asking for my sources. Well, here they are…Us senate.gov(look at his voting record) and NRA. People are accusing me of lying already. Check it out people, they are going to do this stuff. They have 58 senate seats so far out of 100 with 2 races still up in the air. What more sources are needed folks? Peace out.

What happens to all the people that have sold and bought guns with out registering the gun in the past? There are allot of guns out there that aren’t registered to the person that owns them now. Does the person have to show proof that they sold the gun if it happened twenty years ago and what if they can’t do they get fined cause that’s going to be allot of fines. What if you have guns that aren’t registered in your house does the gov. think that we will just give them up. If this passes it is going to make allot of good people criminals
I don’t think it will pass either I was just wondering how they planned on taking care of all the unregistered gun out there. I know I’m giving up my guns to the gov. not that they know what I got.
