Really? Well since it will be mandatory to have said insurance and failure to purchase said insurance would put you in violation of federal law, you would then be guilty of commiting a felony…
Explain to me where the mere desire to have a law passed to personally benefit an individual at anothers expense is ethical? How is it a law that is in direct violation to Amendment 10 of the U.S. Constitution can even be passed without making those that pass it a felon themselves?
Again – we govern our legislators.
When myself and others call our Congressman and tell them we don’t support something – they listen.
And maybe gun related crime is very low, but when guns were banned in the Britain crime spiked – home invasions, burglaries, etc.
Criminals will always have guns, whether or not a law is passed against them.

This is the last thing I’m going to say, because I don’t like the unnecessarily aggressive way you people argue. As far as I am aware, your Congress is in place to pass or reject legislation, thus they govern you.
As a citizen of a country where gun control is very strict, and gun-related crime very low, I am against looser legislation. Perhaps if you thought with your mind, not a flag, you would understand why. And your freedom? Columbine wasn’t about freedom.
As a foreigner, you have no place commenting on American Government. As you said, you’re not an American, you don’t care about our our Constitution – and therefore have no understanding of how we are to be governed.
The Congress is in place to represent the will of the people. The President is our Commander and Chief of the military. He has legislative power, but that is not the primary purpose behind establishing the Executive Branch.
And our freedom is precious enough to fie for. Got it?

Thanks but I already expressed my opinion, and you were wrong on all but one point. I didn’t specify a doctor, the purpose of your Congress and President is to govern you, so you do not already govern yourselves, and rules, in general, do promote safety, although they do reduce your precious American freedom. The only time you were right was when you said your constitution doesn’t matter to me. It doesn’t. Why should it? I’m not American.

Let me rephrase this for you:
If a bureaucratic “doctor” deems you unfit in his opinion to own a firearm, you should not be allowed to. And you are not to govern yourself, of course. Your Constitution doesn’t matter to me, and I think you’d all be safer if there were more rules in the world.

I am aware that children cannot buy guns, that would be stupid. Generally, in the UK anyway, mental and physical capability for something would be determined by a doctor, or by the conditions set by the respective governing body. No tyrants are required. Perhaps I am ‘treading on [your] constitution’, but in my opinion anything which makes weapons in the hands of untrained civilians rarer, or otherwise less dangerous, is a good thing. I don’t know if you’ve ever been to America, but that’s the case. Besides, who’s to determine what “mentally and physically capable adults” are? Even if this Amendment were being introduced now, it would only tighten the regulations on owning guns, thus making the populous safer by making only mentally and physically capable adults able to ha ve one in their possession. Thus the point would be disarming idiots, not ‘good people’. And what’s with the complaining about children not having guns? Maybe I don’t get it; I’m not even American after all, but surely a child with a gun is a really bad idea?

This is NOT true. It is rediculous that people have to resort to this kind of crap. Somebody hears a rumor and builds on it then spreads it around. But the thing that bothers me most is the “right-wingers” and “left wingers” bull. It is time to stop blaming an entire group of people for the actions of one or two. Why don’t you do your research and check out HR45. If the fool succeeds, it will be almost impossible to own a gun & if you would research communist nations you would find it is a precursor to taking away guns completely. PLEASE, grow some intelligence if you can. You can do that by education and research. My father was killed with his own gun. He was a former Marine and knew how to handle it, but shouldn’t have been carrying it around with him.
So its nice of you to spread propaganda and fear. This bill was never introduced in 2009, it was squashed clear back in September 2000. A simple internet search will provide with the correct facts.
Hate to tell you, but this is a hoax. There was a bill SB-2099 back in 2000, but it never went anywhere.
None of that seems like gun safety…more like government control. How did we make airliners safer? We gave pilots guns. It worked. Taking them from the populous does not make them safer. It makes them weaker. If they required you shoot your gun at a range and take a class, THAT’d be better than just disarming good people. But control, NOT safety is the reasoning. Unless I’m missing something here.
