Would you support this form of gun control?

gun control legislation
catholicismalltheway asked:

I noticed that a good portion of gun control measure attempt to limit the performance of firearms (limited mag capacities, outright ban on some guns, special applications for silencers, bans on certain type of ammo, etc). I feel that all firearms (everything from single shot rifles to class 3 weapons are dangerous and have the potential to kill. A problem with current gun legislation is that it deprives law abiding citizens of the ability to own certain types of guns that are very effective. Instead of limiting the performance of firearms, wouldn’t it be better to make more laws which restrict who can buy guns? Personally, I think it would be good if the government required gun owners to provide fingerprints/facial photos, give dna, take an eye exam, take a psychological evaluation, prove that they can safely store the guns, and have a background check. It would also be better to increase penalties on illegal gun sales and gun crimes. Wouldn’t it be better to have this type of gun control system instead of our current system. I think that they should just repeal all gun laws which restrict performance (including the ban of 86 and other laws like that) and replace it with this system. Wouldn’t that be even more effective than our current system? Honestly, I think it would be fair for shooting enthusiasts (such as myself and many other people). Criminals will always have the ability to kill (even if they don’t have guns). They can always use knives, cars, pipe bombs, etc.
But what if it meant that you could buy fully automatic uzis/other class 3 weapons and armor piercing ammo?

  1. the only gun control I support is
    A) squeeze the trigger
    B) follow through with your shot

  2. Would I support DNA, fingerprints, etc~ absolutely not, that type of information banking is for criminals.

I do agree with background checks and short (less than 48hr) waiting periods, but that’s about it. Unless you’re a felon or invalid you have a right to own a gun.

  3. its way to cost prohibitive and a psych evaluation is subjective and what if you had a person doing the evaluation that was anti gun wouldn’t be in his best interest to say the person shouldn’t have a gun so that person could never have a gun and criminals will always be able to get guns if they want to get one no matter how hard you try to prevent them from getting one

  4. Even so, its not like all the guns on the street are legally purchased, so why not arm the police and military and educate the people instead of giving them the upper hand by letting them essentially bring a gun to a knife fight

  5. I agree with IamRight. I find it amazing that you’re catholic and support shooting at all. The Luciferian Jesuit Order is doing their best to destroy the Second Amendment as part of their New World Order agenda.

  6. Most that those proposed things are already used for CCW holders…But giving DNA would be a violation of my privacy. I have not done anything wrong and I am being treated as a felon? I think not.

I mean if that is the case then they might as well deputize all applicants as law enforcement. And again would only make those who do not wish to break the law. Criminals would still not obey.

Not too mention the current background checks and such are not fool proof but accurate. Any of the gun shops I have been to have turned quite a few people down because of the background check…and most of them appealed and were reinstated.

And I have no use for an UZI or “armor piercing” bullets.

  7. Any time you require a person to submit to a battery of checks such as you have listed, and predicate his owning a firearm of the completion of such a battery, you have taken a RIGHT, and turned it into a Privilege.
All the government has to do once these measures are passed to infringe on the common mans rights to keep and bear arms is say ” OK, it will cost you $2000 for the DNA testing, retinal scan, and fingerprints” ” Another $6000 for the Psych eval, and $500 for the paperwork and forms.”

Congratulations, they have just made your “Right” too expensive to exercise.
The best form of Gun control is education. We should be teaching our children in school starting at the age of 10, proper firearm safety, and continue teaching them firearm safety and what constitutes the lawful use of lethal force right up until they graduate.

  8. NO WAY would I support this type of Gun Control. I thing everyone who legally can have a gun,be required to take a Gun Safety and Handling Course or classes,BEFORE they
can purchase a Gun.Male and Female. I’m a 64 year old disabled , grandmother. I WILL ALWAYS have a Gun to protect my family and myself if I ever I need to. It’s hard for me to believe the authorities would be aloud to
enter a Law Abiding Citizen’s home and confiscate any
weapons. It will be a hard road to hoe before they take
mine. Are we still in America or WHAT???
