two questions on gun control?
athorgarak asked:
With the terrible incident at virginia tech, do you expect to see a fresh push by democrats to pass more anti-gun legislation?
Do you understand that nowhere on earth has anti-gun legislation affected gun based crimes? (Ie. Australia has completely banned firearms and the firearm crime rate has increased, because the criminals, who, by definition, disobey laws, will not turn in their weapons, but they will now know that their future victim pool is less able to defend itself than ever before)?
Yes australia’s gun ban WAS a reaction to a mass shooting. and the desired effect did not happen. who cares if that country has a different rate of crime than our country? Their crime rate is not the point, but how banning guns affects crime!
no legal guns=only criminals with guns=higher crime!
this has been PROVEN time and time again.
The media machine is already at it pushing the idea of a total gun ban. As I type, ABCnow online is pushing this idea with their ‘jounalists’ asking questions about the ease of access to guns in the US and how much better it would be without guns (because without guns, no one can be shot!)
hahaha how rediculous

Really? Australias gun crimes have increased? and what are they compared to The good ole USA? 90 %? 80 %? 50 % or is the crime rate in Australia due to guns less than most of our major metropoliitan cities? If you are going to cite statistics, cite them all.
I sure we will, but as always we will vehemently defend the 2nd amendment.
First of all, your example with Australia has no correllation, you argue that banning guns caused the gun crime rate to increase, do you have any studies supporting this conclusion?
I could just as easily say guns were banned in Australia IN RESPONSE to the growing gun crime rate.
Secondly, I am not for banning all weapons, I think people should be able to defend themselves. The problem I see is that the Gun laws on the books now are not doing enough to discourage the illegal trade of firearms, and the punishment for owning an illegal firearm is too leinient as well. Why are Republicans so tough on crime, but soft on Gun legislation?
No I think most people understand that this is a isolated incident but your question would make a great republican talking point.
I do believe that anit’s will push for more gun laws now. And also I do agree that God-forbid anything like what happened in Australia happened here we would see the same thing happen. It would be too hard to collect guns that aren’t registered. Those guns are also the problem becuase those are the ones used for crime. You also then leave all of the citizens that have them registered left with no way to defend themselves.
You are on the button.Knee jerk reaction will happen . Lets hope that when crimminals take over, these same people are on the front line. my bet ? They’ll be up someone’s **** in the back row.
You have to think of it this way if gun control laws are passed then that means that criminals will have them and good people who get them legally will not so we wouldn’t be able to defend ourselfs… I support the owning and selling of all firearms to the public… But then again I’m an avid gun enthuiast so it could just be my biased opinion…
But as the old saying goes Guns don’t kill people, people kill people
Did you know that Iraq had the most heavily armed populous on the planet? It clearly did not prevent tyranny.
Also, the Australian connection is misleading, at best.
See here:
To answer the gun control question, I believe both parties will be more willing to push for gun control now. Why? If there’s one thing Congress is, it’s reactionary.
Relax, though. They almost never get anything accomplished.
This, too, shall pass.
Yes it will be used as an excuse to increase gun control laws. Hopefully we can defeat it but this is some major artillery for the anti-gun crowed. As for the rise in gun violence in Australia here is a link to a good study on it put out by the Frasier Institute, a liberal think tank out of Canada.
In the nations of Canada, Australia and the UK. The incarnation of restrictive gun laws have caused a surge in gun crime.
The mayor of Nagasaki Japan was just murdered, shot twice in the back. The Chief of Police said “The only ones with guns in Japan are Gangsters and registered hunters” Japan has some of the MOST restrictve gun laws in the world.
PROOF: When Guns are Outlawed, only outlaws will have guns!
Your 100% right!
Gun control causes crime. Gun control has never worked anywhere so why cite it as a solution? Gun control is for Stalin and Hitler, not free Americans.
I think it was a tragedy first and foremost and my thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.
The killer alone caused the crime, but the high number of victims is directly caused by gun control. The Virginia Tech killer never registered his gun, so why cite registration as a solution?
They were just sitting ducks with no way to defend themselves much like the victims of Colin Ferguson. Concealed-carry advocates warned us all long ago to expect tragedies like this as long as we have gun control.
When only criminals have guns the rest of us can only ponder tactics like “notifications.” Up to two million Americans defend themselves with guns and citizens with guns legally kill two times as many would-be killers as do police!
In a state where concealed-carry is allowed or promoted, the loss of life could have been much less. He may have shot one or two, but a concealed-carrier would have dispatched him right quick.
Sadly there is no way to prevent a killer with a gun. In tribal Africa where there are no manufactured guns, tribesman make them from pipes and rubber-bands so clearly gun control is not the answer. You can make a gun out of wood in an hour! He could have stabbed just as many with a knife.
Since you will never stop the OFFENSE, we must allow ourselves a DEFENSE. We are not all of one culture anymore, so violence will only increase.
HB 1572 was a Virginia state bill to allow college students to carry arms on campus to protect themselves from tragedies like what happened at Virginia Tech. The bill was defeated
The spokesman for Virginia Tech was happy to hear the bill [HB 1572] was defeated. “I’m sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly’s actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus.”
The fact is NOT passing the bill allowing students to defend themselves caused many more deaths. States that pass concealed-carry laws experience lower crime rates, Texas is a good example of this.
The only way to prevent these killing rampages is concealed-carry. Would you rather protect yourself or wait for the folly of police or school “notification?”
The media, evil is as evil does…the problem with the media is that they shove the news down our throats 24/7 almost to the point of pornographic, until They get the desired effect they are wanting to achieve… liberal means media in Farsi!
They can have my Guns come and get them…
when you are born in the USA the government should have to issue you a gun.
I may love you…If you will just stop generalizing-I am A Registered DEMOCRAT-I do not apologize- And I am pro-gun. I am pro-constitution. The constitution GRANTS rights, it does not take them away! How about a new argument? Timothy McVey DID NOT use a gun. A LOT of people died anyway, because a madman decided they would. ?? Anthing?? Anyone?? It does not matter if you do not legalize guns-they exist, and bad guys will get them if they want them. It is unnecessary to ban guns; the law clearly bans murder! See how far that takes us?? Right. You can not pass a law to dictate to a crazy person. They do not give a damn! If the rank and file idiot did not have a gun until he/she had been taught which end fires at least, that COULD prevent some of the stupid accidents.. If parents would take back their parental authority-IT IS NOT CHILD ABUSE TO ***** A CHILD!!! It is child abuse to BEAT a child. There is a difference. Does no one see the correlation between loss of parental control and these dead-eyed children on the news each and every night, because they killed someone??? They believe no one cares about them, and they care for no one. Anyway (sorry) if parents would take back their authority that too would go a long way vis-a-vis stupid accidents. I assure you,(my Dad had enough guns in that house when he died to open a good-sized shop and we had nooo idea-) at my house it was clearly understood-do not touch the gun! Nobody at my house thought that was equivical. We did not touch the gun. It didn’t lay on the dining room table either. Out of sight, out of mind is also something that goes a long way.. Responsible parenting in all things…And everytime something goes wrong the loons of the world scream Ban! Prohibit! Outlaw! Wanna bet these are the same folks sooo concerned with Don Imus’ freedom of speech?? Bah. Anyway, (except fo that shot at Democrats) you are correct, sir! Thank you.
