Why does the Democrat Party continue to push for gun control legislation and gun bans?
There are already over 20,000 gun control laws in the United States, yet none of them have reduced crime or murder rates. Washington DC has the strictest gun control laws in the country. If gun laws work then wouldn’t Washington DC have the lowest crime and murder rate in the country? So how comes Washington DC is the murder capital of the nation instead? Could it be because the anti-gun politicians and anti-gun corporate controlled media are lying bedfellows? Are any Democrats upset with their party’s stance to destroy constitutional rights and make the streets safer for criminals and more dangerous for average citizens? Is there a secret agenda behind their support for wanting to ban guns? Don’t lie and tell me the Democrats don’t want my guns either. Obama and many of the others have publicly voiced their support for passing another “assault weapons ban” in order to ban the very guns that I use for DEFENSE. The second amendment isn’t about hunting.

Alex, I’m not lying. Gun control and the second amendment have been brought up on the campaign trail many times already. Our constitutional rights are an important issue to most people, myself included. They better support ALL of my rights and not just pick and choose.

The three editors of the prominent medical journal, Dr. Jeffrey Drazen, Stephen Morrissey and Dr. Gregory Curfman, said handguns were far more likely to cause harm than do good.
“In our opinion, there is little reason to expect an optimistic result; research has shown and logic would dictate that fewer restrictions on handguns will result in a substantial increase in injury and death,” they wrote in a commentary released in Thursday’s issue.
The United States is estimated to have the world’s highest civilian gun ownership rate. Gun deaths average 80 a day in the United States, 34 of them murders, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“In 2005, the last year with complete data, there were more than 30,000 deaths and 70,000 nonfatal injuries from firearms,” Drazen, a physician at Harvard Medical School, and his colleagues wrote.
“About one quarter of the nonfatal injuries and a tenth of the deaths were in children and adolescents. To place these numbers in perspective, 10 times as many Americans die each year from firearms as have died in the Iraq war during the past five years,” they added.
“Firearm injuries represent a major public health problem that seems certain to be exacerbated with less handgun regulation.”
Other doctors have agreed.
“A number of scientific studies, published in the world’s most rigorous, peer-reviewed journals, show the risks of keeping a loaded gun in the home outweigh the potential benefits,” Dr. Arthur Kellerman, an emergency physician at Emory University in Atlanta, wrote in The Washington Post.
“According to the Justice Department, far more guns are lost each year to burglary or theft than are used to defend people or property.”
The New England Journal editors noted that the 1976 Washington law affected by the ruling resulted in an immediate 25 percent decline in murders and suicides in the District of Columbia but not in neighboring Virginia and Maryland.
“It is well documented in the medical literature that regulation of guns benefits the public health,” they wrote.
“We have a heightened concern about suicide,” they added.
Medical experts note it is far easier to carry out a ******* with a gun than it is using any other method.

Because criminals and their families are one of their largest constituencies. If their victims are unarmed, criminals are able to work much more safely, and democrats have yet another reason to try and save the people.
You are lying. Gun control is not a major issue for the Democratic Party right now. Nobody is “pushing” for anything at the moment, and the Supreme Court just strengthened the 2nd Amendment with the D.C. decision!

The United States has the highest rate of gun ownership of any developed nation. We also have the highest gun crime rate and murder rate. Obviously the wide availability of guns is bad for everyone.
because they have no sense of reality in them. they think that such a legislation would pass? even if it did, how in the world are they going to enforce this? i sure as hell will NOT follow this no matter what. You cannot take away protection one may have. once this is done, we are defensless against dangerous people and government. The dems want to push for this, so that they can control more of the US population.

Your right some Democrats and some Republican Christianist want to ban guns all together but their movement does not get far. After 911 and almost 8 years now of corrupt people in our government the gun ban issue has faded.
DC’s gun ban was worthless because it is right next to Virginia which has the most lax gun laws in the country. DC criminals could easily walk to Virginia and buy all the guns they wanted.

let’s face it . a dependent person, one who has to have someone else protect them, is most likely to be a democrat. Look at welfare . dependent people look for the govt to give them everything… the fact that gun control is one of the biggest issues of the democrat party is a given.
