Against Gun Control legislation coming from Obama-Biden in January?

gun control legislation
Matt asked:

President-elect Barack Obama has just stated that he is going to tax ammunition 500% as well as all handguns and semi-automatic weapons. He said he wants to permanantly ban all hanguns, semi-auto’s, and some shotguns. He also wants to do away with the ‘grandfather clause’ and make it illegal to possess any guns purchased before his ban goes into effect. You will have to wait for 30 days to buy a gun. He and Biden are also proposing reinstating a ‘much stronger’ version of the 1994-2004 Clinton gun ban that the Republican Congress let expire in 2004. This new band would be permanent without being up for renewal option! Basically they are disarming law abiding citizens, but doing so in small increments. With The Democrats having a fillibuster proof Majority in the Senate and House, Obama will be able to implement and pass this gun control on America as the numbers are there in the Senate. They already have 58 seats out of 100. No, I am not a Republican, and am darn sure not a Democrat. I am an American that votes 3rd party every time. Who agrees with me that the cities they ban guns in have the highest crime rates? A criminal can get a gun anywhere. This legislation is targeted at LAW ABIDING CITIZENS and nothing more. Do you agree with what they said they are going to do on January 20, 2009, by signing the confiscation of guns into law? Look at the President-elect’s voting record as a Senator on every piece of gun legislation in the past. Who in their right mind would allow a 500% tax on ammunition and all guns? People have told me ‘Congress won’t let him do it’, however I disagree as they have enough of a majority to do whatever they want for the next 2 years. So, the question of the day is…Do you agree with what they are doing come January or are you for it??? When is enough enough? Sincerely, an average American struggling to pay the mortgage and keep gas in my car. No I am not a right winger or a gun freak either. This coming legislation just seems very disturbing to me.
eople are asking for my sources. Well, here they are…Us senate.gov(look at his voting record) and NRA. People are accusing me of lying already. Check it out people, they are going to do this stuff. They have 58 senate seats so far out of 100 with 2 races still up in the air. What more sources are needed folks? Peace out.

  1. Hum, well I have always been around guns! Family of police officers and hunters. So no I would not support this ban. This is the first time I heard about it, if you wouldn’t mind siting a source I would be grateful. Clearly I am out of the loop!

  2. Since you’re a cross-posting douchebag I’ll just follow you and post my shizzle:

Source it or it never happened.

Downthumb me all you want douchebags, my assertion is valid – his question is riddled with lies and distortions and I want to see him back his post up,

Oh and I should state for the record – AR-15, AK-47, etc etc etc law-abiding liberal gun owner here that isn’t the least bit worried.

Since you tried to respond, I’ll walk you through it.

    1. What he backed (which they knew never would pass but it was a good faith vote) was for a 500% INCREASE in the tax of ammo – or roughly a 50% total tax. You’re wrong.
    2. Your quote “President-elect Barack Obama has just stated that he is going to tax ammunition 500% as well as all handguns and semi-automatic weapons. He said he wants to permanantly ban all hanguns, semi-auto’s, and some shotguns” WHERE IS YOUR LINK SHOWING HE ‘JUST SAID’ this? Back it up or back down.
    3. “He also wants to do away with the ‘grandfather clause’ and make it illegal to possess any guns purchased before his ban goes into effect. You will have to wait for 30 days to buy a gun. He and Biden are also proposing reinstating a ‘much stronger’ version of the 1994-2004 Clinton gun ban that the Republican Congress let expire in 2004.” WHERE IS YOUR LINK? It doesn’t have to do with his record – you say they propose – link it dude. Or its lies.
    4. “tion! Basically they are disarming law abiding citizens, but doing so in small increments. With The Democrats having a fillibuster proof Majority in the Senate and House,” LIE they don’t – they need 60 seats. They have 57.

You make assertion after assertion about ‘what they will do’ yet you provide no material link. ***** his voting record. Last time I checked, Congress writes the bills. The president can’t do anything regarding legislation except perhaps recommend. And Congress would not pass this sort of stupid crap because it would put many businesses out of business – do you think that’s a bright idea given the nature of our economic issues?

So again – where did you ‘hear’ him ‘say’ that he ‘would do’ these things on ‘Jan 20, 2009′? Or are you smoking some weed?

Seriously, link it or your question just stinks of rant, my friend.

  3. Rant Rant Rant Good he should take all guns away And make them all illegal.

  4. I support heavy gun control, yes. I really don’t see the purpose of owning a hand gun, or semi-automatic weapon. For me, I would never own a gun of any kind. I understand hunting, though I don’t like it. Certainly I do support your right to own a hunting rifle after going through some extensive background checks.

All the statistics I’ve seen show that gun control laws help reduce gun deaths. Having a gun in the home is more likely to cause accidental death than protect you from criminals. Also, if you look at all the European countries with much much heavier gun control, you see far far fewer gun-related deaths, far fewer armed robberies and a generally lower crime rate.

Certainly the founding fathers when writing the 2nd amendment had no clue about handguns and semi-automatic weapons, let alone nuclear weapons and all the other things out there that can be considered “arms”. We need heavy control over these things to protect people.

  5. With an eight-year-old possibly facing prosecution as an adult for the brutal murder of his father and a co-worker with a high-powered rifle, don’t you think this is probably the WORST time to post a rant about the banning of guns? And yeah – I want to see this proof you’re talking about, not just take your word for it. And no, I don’t think places that ban handguns have the highest crime rate simply because of that. C’MON!!! Be for real. And while you’re quoting stats, how about the record of where the highest mortality rate from home-based crimes committed comes from?

Having worked with police officers in the past, they verified a fact for me that I never knew: nearly HALF, that’s right – nearly HALF of the home-owners killed by intruders died because the perps USED THEIR OWN GUNS ON THEM at the time the crime was committed. Going out, buying a gun and even learning how to use it does NOT make you into Harry Callahan or Martin Riggs. If more people remembered that, some of them might actually be alive today.

Plus, isn’t the legislation on certain kinds of guns anyway? SERIOUSLY – what do regular people need AK-47 assault rifles for? If you were protecting your home and it was in BAGHDAD – maybe I could see the logic in that.

  6. No, he did not say any of this. It is a big lie. Don’t be pushing it in this section because we won’t believe you. We got better things to do in this country besides worry about guns. We got ‘em, they KNOW it, they know better than to try and take them away! Chr**t Almighty, what is wrong with some people? Your question is so damned aggravating! get your **** over to the politics section and spread stupid rumors over there.
    Auntie Kookoo

  7. I don’t support the ban. Obviously if you take the weapons away from citizens then only criminals will be armed

  8. I would like your source where Obama actually said he is going to do what you claim.

  9. I am against the ban on guns or wepons.. Its a free world and we should be able to have or own what we want or like..some of us like to collect guns as a hobby and some of us are just gun nuts and we love our fire arms as i am one of them..We should have the right to own a gun if we like and the one thing i am for is making it tougher to own a gun or by a gun legaly but then you can get a gun ilegaly just as easy as going to a drug store for some asprin so they will never really control guns in the country…
